Victory Through Vision

The world is full of people who walk through life, completely dissatisfied with the situation they currently occupy. So many go through each day wishing for the opportunity to change their position life, yet so few of them ever take the initiative to make change a practice and reality. They have a longing to be more than what they currently perceive themselves to be, but no vision with which to accomplish. So they continue on, loathing each day than the day before, but blind to any avenue of escape.

You’ve probably heard the maxim: “In the land of the blind, the one-eyed man is king”. Within the simple words of that proverb is the idea being that in a world that lacks clarity – and is full of uncertainty – even someone with a little vision can rule.

This idea is supported by a multitude of philosophers and religious authorities. The Old Testament records that when there's no vision, it can lead to the demise of people.

In order to avoid this, one’s vision has to be able to see beyond our current circumstances into the possibilities of a future that has yet to be realized.

Robert Kennedy captured the power of vision when he was speaking at the University of Kansas and quoted the words of Irish playwright, George Bernard Shaw and said,
"Some people see things as they are and say why? I dream things that never were and say, why not?"
Each person has the ability to choose and create their future destiny based on the raw material of their present circumstances, but it will never be anything more than a nagging wish without a certain amount of vision to propel the heart into action.

Martin Luther King was a man whose vision was towards victory. Countless people have received inspiration after hearing about his dream. However, his dream would have never come to fruition if he had not first began with a vision. He dared to look at the current circumstances and believe victory could be accomplished.

Much like an iceberg whose existence begins long before it seen by those above the service, so a vision of victory is begun long before there is any physical evidence of its taking shape; it begins in the mind, but it will end in the physical achievement of the envisioned goals.

There will always be the naysayers who say that achievement is awarded only to the privileged, the gifted and the select few, but they will always be proven wrong by the voices of those people who accomplished amidst conflict in their lives.

A recent example would be that of the late Steve Jobs.

Jobs was born out of wedlock, put up for adoption at birth, dropped out of college, and yet still found a way to set his sights higher than most would have deemed him able and went on to make a, “dent in the universe”.

What are your dreams? Where do you see yourself going? What do you want to accomplish.

You can achieve victory – through vision.
